  • Evan Blass shared a leaked Spanish marketing teaser pointing to a May 13, 2025 launch date for the Galaxy S25 Edge.
  • Previous reporting aligns with this leaked date, hinting at regional rollouts from May 23 through May 30.
  • Pricing is expected to be high, likely matching or nearing that of the Galaxy S25 Ultra despite lower specs.

After months of teasing, the Galaxy S25 Edge seems right around the corner. We’ve long been hearing reports of an April-May launch for the device, which narrowed down recently to a May 13 date. A new leak corroborates this date, adding more weight to the possibility of the Galaxy S25 Edge launching on May 13, 2025.

Leaker Evan ‘evleaks’ Blass shared what looks like a Spanish marketing teaser for the Galaxy S25 Edge.

  • Samsung’s earnings call confirmed an AI-powered Galaxy Tab S11 and a redesigned Galaxy Watch with new health features.
  • The company reported strong Q1 profits, driven by Galaxy S25 sales and lower component costs.
  • More AI features are coming to mid-range phones, plus new foldables and entry-level earbuds are on the way.

Samsung’s earnings call today included a few interesting reveals, including confirmation that new tablets and wearables are on the way later this year. While that in itself isn’t too surprising, we did get a glimpse of the tech giant’s plans.

During the call, Daniel Araujo from the company’s Mobile Experience (MX) division said Samsung will launch an AI-enhanced Galaxy Tab S11 series in the second half of 2025. He also mentioned a new Galaxy Watch with “an innovative design” and “enhanced health-related features,” though he didn’t go into more detail at this stage.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 series has arrived: Specs, pricing, availability, colors, and more https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-s10-3389280/ https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-s10-3389280/#respond Wed, 30 Apr 2025 20:22:58 +0000 https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-s10-3389280/
  • Samsung has launched two models in its flagship Tab S10 series: the Tab S10 Plus and the Tab S10 Ultra.
  • The new tablets retain the same display sizes, battery capacities, and overall design aesthetics as their predecessors.
  • A key change this year is the inclusion of Galaxy AI and the switch to a MediaTek processor.

Samsung has officially taken the wraps off the Galaxy Tab S10 series, along with the Galaxy S24 FE, and there’s a lot to unpack (heh). This year, the Galaxy Tab lineup has been streamlined, with just two models on offer: the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus and the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra. The base Galaxy Tab S10 is missing for now, and it’s unclear whether it’ll make a later debut or if Samsung has decided to skip it entirely.

  • Samsung and the GSMA have announced a partnership to enable VoLTE by default on all Galaxy phones running One UI 7.
  • All recent Samsung phones support VoLTE, but this move means you don’t have to look for the feature in your phone’s settings.
  • This move is also important as traditional calls are routed over 3G, but 3G networks are being shut down in many countries.

VoLTE is one of the most important calling features on Android phones today, allowing traditional phone calls to be routed over LTE. This feature isn’t enabled by default on all Samsung phones, but that’s changing today.

Samsung and the GSMA have announced a partnership to enable VoLTE by default on all Galaxy phones running Android 15 (One UI 7):

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 could be a tale of two foundries, TSMC and Samsung https://www.androidauthority.com/qualcomm-snapdragon-8-elite-gen-2-samsung-foundry-2nm-leak-3549455/ https://www.androidauthority.com/qualcomm-snapdragon-8-elite-gen-2-samsung-foundry-2nm-leak-3549455/#respond Wed, 30 Apr 2025 11:49:06 +0000 https://www.androidauthority.com/qualcomm-snapdragon-8-elite-gen-2-samsung-foundry-2nm-leak-3549455/ Snapdragon 8 Elite logo on phone

  • Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 SoC might have TSMC (3nm) and Samsung Foundry (2nm) variants.
  • Samsung’s version could appear on Galaxy phones in the latter half of next year, possibly on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and other foldables.
  • It’s unclear if the Samsung-made chip will be a special ‘For Galaxy’ variant.

Qualcomm is expected to follow up on the successful Snapdragon 8 Elite flagship SoC with a new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 SoC later in the year. Leaks suggest the SoC could be built by TSMC on its 3nm N3P process, which is a more advanced 3nm process than the 8 Elite’s N3E process. However, it seems that not all Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 SoCs will be built by TSMC, as Samsung Foundry is now said to be in the race for at least one variant of the flagship SoC.

According to a report from South Korea’s SE Daily (via Jukanlosreve on X) citing industry sources, Samsung Foundry is said to be coordinating plans with Qualcomm to produce a 2nm chip by the end of the year, likely under the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 banner/generation of SoCs. However, Samsung Foundry will produce it on a more advanced 2nm process, while TSMC will produce the same on a 3nm process. The report doesn’t mention the reason for this, but it’s likely because Samsung Foundry’s 2nm process will still be behind TSMC’s 3nm process when it comes to fruition.

Galaxy S24 Ultra owners are annoyed by wasted space in One UI 7’s status bar https://www.androidauthority.com/one-ui-7-status-bar-annoyance-3549090/ https://www.androidauthority.com/one-ui-7-status-bar-annoyance-3549090/#respond Wed, 30 Apr 2025 08:44:20 +0000 https://www.androidauthority.com/one-ui-7-status-bar-annoyance-3549090/ Samsung One UI 7 Now Bar Closeup

  • With One UI 7 finally rolling out widely, many Galaxy S24 Ultra owners are voicing their displeasure with the status bar in the new update.
  • There is more blank space in the top corners, which works well for phones with rounded corners but not for phones with sharper corners, like the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
  • This change also limits the number of icons the status bar can display, much to everyone’s displeasure.

Update, April 30, 2025 (04:44 AM ET): This article initially mentioned that the extra space in the status bar was also present on the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s One UI 7 update. However, it seems Samsung is not applying the changes uniformly across recent Galaxy S Ultra devices.

Reddit user qlstar points out that the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s One UI 7 update only marginally increased the empty space at the left and right edges of the status bar, but the change is small enough for most people to ignore. In contrast, the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s One UI 7 update brought too much blank space in the status bar, and you can see why users would be annoyed.

  • The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 will apparently use an Exynos 2500 flagship chipset.
  • A source reportedly claimed that Samsung is using the Exynos 2500 due to its price.
  • Samsung’s Q1 earnings statement also points to Exynos chips being used in two upcoming flagship models.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE are expected to launch in the second half of the year, and we’ve already seen leaked renders and some apparent specs. The Z Flip 7 FE is expected to use an Exynos 2400 series chip, but we’ve seen conflicting rumors about the Z Flip 7’s choice of processor. However, it looks like we’ve now got a more definitive answer.

Chosun Biz (h/t: Jukanlosreve on Twitter) reports that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be equipped with the Exynos 2500 flagship processor. The outlet cited a source who requested anonymity. It’s believed that the Exynos-toting Galaxy Z Flip 7 will go into mass production in May, with 200,000 units set to be manufactured by June.

Early One UI 7 releases keep coming, with Samsung Galaxy S21 up next https://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s21-one-ui-7-3549098/ https://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s21-one-ui-7-3549098/#respond Tue, 29 Apr 2025 17:25:53 +0000 https://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s21-one-ui-7-3549098/
  • Samsung is currently making One UI 7 updates available across its lineup of eligible Galaxy devices.
  • The Galaxy S21, Z Fold 3, and Z Flip 3 were all supposed to start getting their updates at some point in May.
  • All these 2021 models have already begun seeing update availability in South Korea, just ahead of international release.

Sometimes, it just takes a little while before you’re able to find your stride. Android 15 debuted last year without a heck of a lot of momentum, and Samsung took its sweet time in even getting its One UI 7 beta program started. Month and months later, when those betas had finished their job and Samsung was ready to get public distribution going, the company had to hit “pause” on its release just days after things got started. Lest you start thinking One UI 7 was cursed, in the days since we’ve seen Samsung’s fortunes quickly reverse, and that’s a trend that’s only continuing now.

While it’s been a bumpy road getting here, now that One UI 7 updates are reliably hitting Galaxy phones and tablets, Samsung’s been speeding up its release schedule. Yesterday we told you about One UI 7 starting to arrive for the Galaxy S22 series, Z Fold 4, and Z Flip 4, all ahead of the planned May release. Now we’re already hearing about updates for the previous generation, also arriving ahead of schedule.

  • Samsung is adding Gemini side-button activation to several Galaxy A-series phones starting in early May.
  • A-series models won’t get the feature until they receive the One UI 7 update.
  • This could mean most Galaxy A-series users will have to wait until June for the functionality.

Samsung’s efforts to spread AI across its smartphone lineup continue, but some users might need a bit of extra patience. The company has announced that several Samsung Galaxy A devices will soon support activating Google’s Gemini assistant by pressing and holding the side button, mirroring the shortcut already available on the flagship Galaxy S series.

In a press release today, Samsung confirmed that the update will start rolling out globally in early May. It will enable even more direct Gemini access on the Galaxy A56 5G, A55 5G, A54 5G, A36 5G, A35 5G, A34 5G, A26 5G, A25 5G, A25e 5G, and A24. However, the catch in the footnotes reveals that the phones will only get this update when running on One UI 7.

  • Samsung is reportedly working on an AI tool in the Samsung Internet app that summarizes videos.
  • The AI video summarization feature is said to analyze speech, visuals, and captions to generate key points, instead of merely summarizing the visible web page content.
  • While the feature is expected to be generally available with One UI 8, you can already try it out through the Samsung Internet app’s debug settings.

The One UI 7 rollout is finally in full swing for Samsung flagships, and the company has allegedly begun work on One UI 8, too. We’ve already seen leaked One UI 8 builds show off a few key features, and now, a new leak is showing off the brand new video summarization feature coming to Samsung Galaxy devices with One UI 8 through the Samsung Internet app.

Sammyguru discovered that Samsung is working on a new AI Video summarization tool within the Samsung Internet app. This tool seemingly analyses the video, detecting speech, visuals, and captions. It is said to use a multi-modal AI model then to summarize the video’s key points, presenting a list of them to the user.

  • The Galaxy S23 FE, S22, Z Fold 4, and Z Flip 4 are all starting to receive the One UI 7 update.
  • This update also contains the April security patch.
  • The rollout is starting in South Korea.

Although the One UI 7 rollout has been pretty slow overall, Samsung has been picking up the pace in recent weeks. After rolling out the new OS to the Galaxy S23 and Tab S10 in the US last week, it is now starting to arrive on six more Galaxy models.

Samsung has started rolling out One UI 7 for the Galaxy S23 FE, Z Fold 4 and Flip 4, S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra. While One UI 7 is not live yet for these devices in the US, it is now available in South Korea. Since the rollout is happening right now in South Korea, the global launch should happen pretty soon. This rollout comes as a bit of a surprise, as these models were scheduled to receive the update in May.

  • Other leaked specs include 5.8mm thickness, 163g weight, Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, and a 200MP camera.

Samsung has teased and teased the Galaxy S25 Edge, and we’re eagerly awaiting more information on the upcoming top-tier Android flagship. Leaks suggest the Galaxy S25 Edge could launch on May 13 as part of a dedicated Unpacked event, with a global release expected for May 30. Now, more leaks are flowing in to fill in the gaps on the Galaxy S25 Edge spec sheet.

Leaker Evan ‘evleaks’ Blass has posted what looks like a leaked press release or marketing material for the Galaxy S25 Edge. According to this leak, the Galaxy S25 Edge will be 5.8mm slim and weigh just 163g. It is said to come with a “pro-grade” 200MP camera, an “all-day” battery, and smart AI features. • Galaxy S23 devices in the US are beginning to get the One UI 7 update.
  • The rollout appears to be starting with devices connected to smaller carriers.
  • The Galaxy S23 FE is not included in the rollout.

Samsung is still in the process of rolling out One UI 7 to owners of its older Galaxy devices. The Android 15 skin started to arrive on the Galaxy S23 series earlier this week, but the update was only available in South Korea at the time. Now, the update is finally starting to show up in the US.

Samsung has now expanded the stable release of One UI 7 to the US for the Galaxy S23 series. According to SamMobile, it appears that the update is hitting devices that are connected to smaller carriers first, like Xfinity Mobile and US Cellular. Specs for a new Samsung Galaxy S phone recently leaked — and no, they’re not for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. They’re for a phone that’ll be here much sooner: the Galaxy S25 FE. Like the Galaxy S24 FE before it, we expect the S25 FE to deliver specs and features similar to the main Galaxy S lineup, but at a much more reasonable price.

This is the first major Galaxy S25 FE leak we’ve seen, and at first glance, it seems like bad news. Code viewed by Android Authority suggests that the S25 FE will use Samsung’s Exynos 2400e chip, which, for context, is the same one found in the S24 FE last year. In other words, likely no performance or power efficiency upgrades for this next generation of the FE.

  • Samsung will reportedly launch the Galaxy S25 Edge on May 13.
  • The phone will apparently be released in China and Korea on May 23 before a US release on May 30.
  • The S25 Edge is said to start at ~$1,046 in Korea.

Samsung gave us a few peeks at the Galaxy S25 Edge earlier this year, but we still don’t have an official release date yet. Now, a Korean outlet has revealed apparent launch details and pricing information.

The Financial News website reports that the Galaxy S25 Edge will launch on May 13 as part of a dedicated Unpacked event. The publication adds that the phone will actually be released on May 23 in China and Korea, followed by a global release (including the US) on May 30.

We’ve had some time to get familiar with the Samsung Galaxy S25 series now, and while there’s a lot to love about the new trio, what’s more exciting is that Samsung also teased a fourth model. Despite earlier rumors around the use of Slim branding, it seems Samsung has dusted off its old Edge moniker once again.

Here’s everything we know about the Galaxy S25 Edge, as well as what we hope to see from it.

  • Users in Africa, the US, and several other locales have reported that they received the new software.
  • Some Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 owners on T-Mobile are apparently receiving One UI 7 as well.

Samsung started the stable One UI 7 rollout earlier this month, but quickly paused it following several reported bugs. Now, users have reported that Samsung has resumed the release.

Users on Reddit and the Samsung Community have confirmed that they’re receiving the stable One UI 7 update. A few Samsung Community members on T-Mobile and Boost Mobile reported that they received the update on their Galaxy S24 series devices.

When it comes to the very best foldable phones, Samsung’s name tends to be one of the first that comes to mind. While the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a fairly iterative update over its predecessor, it does make some notable improvements to AI features, durability, and more. As much as the Fold 6 gets right, there is still plenty of room for Samsung to improve. And thanks to increased competition in the foldable space with devices like the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the OPPO Find N5, Samsung can’t really afford to rest on its laurels for much longer. So, what should we expect from the Galaxy Z Fold 7? Here are all of the rumors and whispers we’ve heard about the upcoming phone so far.

  • The version number suggests it could potentially be the true follow-up to One UI 7.
  • The software could debut alongside the Galaxy S26 series.

Samsung has reportedly started developing One UI 8.5, even though One UI 8 hasn’t been officially announced, and many of us around the world are still waiting for the One UI 7 update. This unexpected leap in versioning suggests Samsung could be preparing a more significant software refresh later in the Android 16 cycle.

  • Samsung has fixed some lingering issues with the Good Lock app.
  • The app now includes modules that were missing after the platform went global.
  • Modules that are exclusive to South Korea have been removed.

Samsung’s Good Lock app, a platform that allows users to customize One UI, went global last week. Previously, the app was only available in the Galaxy Store and in certain countries, but now it’s available in more markets and on the Play Store. While there were some issues initially, Samsung has been quick to fix them. Now the company has rolled out a new update that irons out the last few remaining wrinkles.

One of the problems that popped up after the global rollout of Good Lock was that some modules were not available for download for users in new markets. Another related issue was that some modules weren’t listed at all. According to SamMobile, the missing modules are back, and they are all available to download. These modules include:

  • Samsung is working on at least three new Android tablets, namely the Galaxy Tab S11, Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra, and the Galaxy Tab S10 Lite.
  • We’ve spotted code that indicates the Galaxy Tab S11 and Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra are likely to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC processor.
  • Further, Samsung could expand the existing Galaxy Tab S10 lineup with the Galaxy Tab S10 Lite, likely powered by the Exynos 1380 processor.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S series is the longest-standing and most successful Android tablet lineup ever. The Galaxy Tab S10 series includes the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, launched in September 2024. Now, we’ve spotted clues indicating that Samsung is working on successors for these, alongside a Lite variant for the existing lineup.

We previously revealed the existence of the Galaxy XCover 7 Pro and the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro, as well as the processors that could be used on those devices. This information was correct, as Samsung officially launched both devices with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC.

  • Samsung is working on at least two new smartphones, the Galaxy S25 FE and Galaxy M36 5G.
  • We’ve spotted code that indicates the Galaxy S25 FE is likely to be powered by the Exynos 2400e processor, the same one that was used in the Galaxy S24 FE.
  • Further, the India-specific Galaxy M36 5G will likely use the Exynos 1380 processor, the same one used in the Galaxy M35 5G.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 FE in October 2024. In our opinion, it was a phone that provided proper fan service by giving users a competent option in case they don’t want to spend a lot of money on the flagship Galaxy S24. We’ve spotted clues indicating that Samsung is working on a successor, presumably called the Galaxy S25 FE if it continues the nomenclature, and could come with the same Exynos 2400e processor. Samsung also plans to repeat the Exynos 1380 processor it used on the India-specific Galaxy M35 5G on its successor, presumably the Galaxy M36 5G.

  • Samsung is now offering Certified Re-Newed Galaxy S24 devices that include One UI 7 preinstalled.
  • These refurbished phones come with a new battery, a one-year warranty, a $250 minimum trade-in discount for a limited time, and the option to buy Samsung Care Plus for added peace of mind.
  • Pricing for the phones under the Certified Re-Newed program starts at $620 for the 128GB Galaxy S24 and goes up to $1,140 for the 512GB Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The wait for One UI 7 for Galaxy S24 series users has been quite wild. The beta program itself was delayed, and then ran through for several months, only for the stable update to arrive first for the Galaxy S25 series and stay exclusive to it for a couple of months. When the S24’s One UI 7 finally began rolling out in the stable branch, a bug forced Samsung to pull it back. The update has finally resumed, but S24 users in the US are still left waiting. Surprisingly, if you buy a renewed Galaxy S24 that Samsung is now selling, you will get One UI 7 right out of the box!

Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed program offers customers renewed and refurbished smartphones and backs them with extensive testing, genuine parts, and assembly by Samsung engineers. Through its partner Apkudo, Samsung tests and validates all devices to ensure quality and reliability in the secondary market. Starting today, Samsung is offering the Galaxy S24 series as part of its Certified Re-Newed program.

Since I got my Nexus 6 in 2015, I’ve loved big phones, always choosing the larger version of whatever I buy. After moving back to Samsung in 2019, I’ve owned the Galaxy S10 Plus and every Ultra phone in the S series until the S24 Ultra. I had planned to do the same with the Galaxy S25 series but decided that not enough had changed to warrant the upgrade. I also wanted to try something small and comfortable. So when I got to spend some time with the smallest Galaxy S25, I jumped at the opportunity. Can this pocket-sized phone win me over from the “phablets” I’ve used for over a decade?

  • Google is reportedly paying Samsung an “enormous” amount of money to pre-install Gemini on its devices.
  • A Google employee testified that Google is paying Samsung a monthly fee to load Gemini on devices.
  • This news comes after a US judge found Google guilty of monopolistic behavior by paying companies to pre-install its search engine.

Google has long paid smartphone makers and companies like Mozilla to pre-install its services on their platforms. Now, it turns out Google is paying Samsung a ton of money to pre-install Gemini on Galaxy phones.

Google vice-president of platforms and device partnerships Peter Fitzgerald testified in court (h/t: Bloomberg) that Google started paying Samsung a monthly fee to pre-install Gemini on Galaxy devices. The executive said these monthly payments started in January and that the contract was set to last for at least two years. The total fee wasn’t disclosed, but a Department of Justice lawyer claimed that Google was paying Samsung an “enormous sum of money.”

  • Samsung lets Galaxy phone users activate voice typing via the power button, and it’s available on older devices too.
  • This could be useful if you think the voice typing icon is in an inconvenient place, or if you want a more tactile experience.

Voice typing has improved by leaps and bounds over the last few years. Google Pixel phones and recent Samsung phones even offer offline voice typing for maximum convenience. But did you know that Samsung devices have a convenient way to activate this feature?

I recently found a few strings in the Samsung Keyboard app that suggested the ability to activate voice dictation via the power button. It turns out this feature and the strings aren’t actually new, though. I checked my Galaxy S23 Ultra, running One UI 6.1 and an older version of Samsung Keyboard, and it’s available here. In fact, I also spotted a Reddit thread about this feature from a year ago.

  • Samsung has begun rolling out the new One UI 7 update with April security patches for the Galaxy S25 series in the US.
  • The YD9 firmware version introduces support for Now Bar and Live Notifications for media apps, a refreshed charging animation, and a redesigned battery icon.

Samsung’s update situation is in quite a mess right now. Even though the Galaxy S25 series launched with One UI 7 based on Android 15, it was missing some features that got added to later One UI 7 betas for the Galaxy S24 series. Samsung began rolling out a new One UI 7 build for the S25 series last week, which users are saying is the “final and complete” One UI 7 build with several new features. The rollout began with South Korea, and it’s now finally reaching Galaxy S25 users in the US.

The April update for the Galaxy S25 series comes with firmware version ending with “YD9” and includes the April 2025 security patches. This update brings several new features, such as Now Bar and Live Notification support for media player apps, a new charging animation, a new battery icon, and more. X user MatthewReiter05 (via theonecid) received the update on their Galaxy S25 Ultra on Verizon, although the user notes the dismal state of the changelog.

  • The update is now available in South Korea, with no clarity on a global rollout.
  • It weighs around 1GB for beta testers and 5GB for non-beta users.

The One UI 7 rollout is still ongoing and won’t officially wrap up until Samsung pushes the update to all eligible devices globally. In several regions, including the US, the Galaxy S24 series is yet to receive the Android 15-based update. As usual, Samsung is prioritizing its home market, South Korea, for early access, and the Galaxy S23 series is the latest to benefit.

  • A report claims the Galaxy Z Flip FE won’t launch alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7.
  • It’s said the affordable flip phone is expected to launch in Q4.
  • There’s no mention as to why the launch has been delayed.

Samsung’s foldable lineup is expected to get a little bigger this year. The company has previously teased that a triple-screen device is on the way, but it’s also working on a “Fan Edition” version of its flip-style phone. It was believed that this Galaxy Z Flip FE would debut with the launch of the Fold 7 and Flip 7, but that may not be the case.

According to a report from The Bell, Samsung plans to launch its Galaxy Z Flip FE and triple-screen foldable sometime in Q4 of 2025. Before this report, it was expected that the affordable flip-style phone would be unveiled with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 during Samsung’s summer Unpacked event. While no date has been given yet, it’s believed this Unpacked event will likely be scheduled in July, like last year.

Samsung has done something incredible with One UI 7. Easily Samsung’s biggest Android update in years, One UI 7 has ample new features and a much-needed fresh coat of paint across the board — making it the most enjoyable piece of Samsung software I’ve used in a long, long time.

Simultaneously, Samsung has botched the release of One UI 7 to a degree I didn’t think was possible. It took a mysteriously delayed beta program, followed by months of additional delays and poor communication, before Samsung finally started rolling out One UI 7 to the public on April 10 — six months after Android 15 came to Pixel phones. And just a few days later, Samsung paused the rollout out of the blue.

The Samsung Galaxy A36 5G will get updates until 2031, but it already feels outdated to me https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-a36-review-3542757/ https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-a36-review-3542757/#respond Fri, 18 Apr 2025 10:30:07 +0000 https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-a36-review-3542757/

Samsung’s Galaxy A series has long been the safe bet among mid-range Android phones for buyers who want something dependable without diving into lesser-known brands. In markets like the US, where mid-range options are surprisingly scarce, that reputation carries even more weight. The Galaxy A36 5G continues that tradition — but only just. It looks the part, ticks most of the usual boxes, and on paper, it sounds like a perfectly reasonable buy for $399. But after using it for a few weeks, I found myself wondering if dependable has quietly become disappointing.

  • Samsung may rebrand its upcoming Galaxy Buds FE 2 as Galaxy Buds Core.
  • The new name appeared in an FCC filing for model number SM-R410.
  • An earlier trademark filing suggests the earbuds may only launch in select regions initially.

It’s been 18 months since the original Samsung Galaxy Buds FE landed, and we’re led to believe that the sequel has been inching closer. Now, a fresh leak suggests that Samsung’s next budget earbuds might not be called the Galaxy Buds FE 2 after all.

According to a new FCC filing spotted by X leaker @DalgieshGX and reported by SammyGuru, the upcoming SM-R410 earbuds could launch as the Galaxy Buds Core. That’s the same model number revealed last month, when a leak suggested the successor to the original Galaxy Buds FE was already at an advanced stage of development.

  • Samsung has restarted the Android 15-based One UI 7 rollout for the Galaxy S24 series.
  • The rollout has begun in South Korea, and if all goes well, we expect wider availability in the coming weeks.
  • However, concerns remain about a lock screen bug that was said to be the reason for stopping the rollout before, which is apparently present in this build too, when it was being beta tested.

After months of anticipation, several rounds of beta, and one failed rollout plan, Samsung is rolling out Android 15-based One UI 7 again, bringing the latest update to users outside the Galaxy S25 series.

The One UI 7 rollout has resumed, starting with the Galaxy S24 series. As spotted by Tarun Vats, Samsung is rolling out a new BYD9 build in its home region of South Korea.

  • A rollout timeline from within the Samsung Members app suggests Samsung will soon resume rolling out the Android 15-based One UI 7 update to devices, with just a couple of flagships getting the update this month.
  • Older Galaxy flagship phones and tablets will apparently get the Android 15 update in May, at the same time when Google is expected to roll out stable Android 16 for its Pixel lineup.
  • Non-flagship Galaxy devices will seemingly receive Android 15 in June, at a time when other Android OEMs will be rolling out their Android 16 update.

It’s been a wild ride for Samsung Galaxy fans trying to get their Android 15 update with One UI 7. Samsung chose to launch the new update with the Galaxy S25 series, extending its beta program all through. Still, months after the phone’s launch, the company has been unable to roll out the stable One UI 7 update to owners of older Galaxy flagships. The stable rollout had begun, but was quickly pulled too. Samsung has remained typically silent throughout most of this ordeal, leaving users scrambling for any and all information. Now, a new rollout timeline is floating around, revealing when different Galaxy devices will receive their One UI 7 stable update.

Reddit user The_TAM spotted a notice in the Samsung Members app that detailed the rollout information for One UI 7. The user is from India, which so far has been part of the early rollout waves for One UI 7, lagging behind South Korea but getting access usually before the US. Following the notice, you can thus expect One UI 7 for your devices a little after the mentioned months.

  • Perplexity is in early talks with Samsung to become an AI assistant option on Galaxy smartphones.
  • The startup has reportedly secured a similar deal with Motorola.
  • Despite Samsung’s close ties with Google, Perplexity could offer Galaxy users a smarter alternative to Gemini.

Perplexity is one of the most up-and-coming AI assistants, rivaling the likes of Google Gemini and ChatGPT. When we put the Perplexity Assistant to the test, we were greatly impressed by its performance. Android Authoritys Calvin Wankhade even remarked that it made Gemini look bad in comparison. Now, we’re hearing that Perplexity is in early talks with Samsung to secure a coveted spot on its smartphones, a position currently enjoyed by Gemini, and, to a lesser extent, Bixby.

With all the new smart rings launched this year, I might be maxing out open fingers. Yet, I’m already looking ahead to what Samsung might deliver with a potential Samsung Galaxy Ring 2. Building on the foundation of its first smart ring, the company’s next model is rumored to bring advanced health sensors, a longer-lasting battery, and more size options for a better fit. If these early reports are accurate, the Galaxy Ring 2 could be a compelling step forward for the whole smart ring market.

  • Reddit users recently discovered that some Galaxy AI features are only available in China.
  • This includes Social Composer, Ask AI, Touch Assistant, and Samsung Assistant.
  • Of these four features, Social Composer is the only one I’d rather not see in more regions, as it would worsen the quality of social media platforms.

Generative AI features are generating a lot of excitement right now, and Samsung has perhaps the best selection of AI-powered features on mobile devices. The availability of Galaxy AI features differs by region, though. It turns out that Chinese users have access to some AI features that even U.S. users don’t have. One of those features is called Social Composer, and based on its description, I think the rest of the world is better off without it.

With the increase in AI writing tools, more people are using them to write posts online. Some people use them to help correct simple grammar or spelling mistakes, while others use them to generate entire articles to save time. Using AI to correct issues with text you’ve written yourself is fine—I do it all the time—but relying on it to create text can be problematic. The resulting text often reads inauthentically, which is especially concerning when shared on social media platforms designed for real people to share their thoughts.

  • According to multiple reports, Apple did surprisingly well in the first quarter of 2025, a period when Samsung usually rules the roost with its flagship S series.
  • Counterpoint Research reports that Apple actually beat Samsung to take the top spot in the worldwide smartphone market for the first time ever in Q1.
  • Other research firms beg to differ but don’t deny Apple’s exceptional performance over the last three months.

Every quarter, market analysts and industry insiders track how the top smartphone brands stack up globally. The competition is always fierce among the big three — Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi — with Samsung and Apple constantly swapping places at the top. But Q1 2025 delivered a surprise that might give Samsung reason to worry.

If you’re a Samsung fan and have been looking forward to the company’s long-awaited One UI 7 update, you’ve probably heard the bad news by now. On Monday, Samsung unexpectedly halted its One UI 7 rollout — just days after it finally started being released to the general public.

On its own, this would be annoying enough. One UI 7 is one of Samsung’s most significant updates in years, offering a truckload of new features and visual refreshes. To have Samsung release an update this big just to delay it less than a week later isn’t a good look.

  • A leaked build of One UI 8 has been spotted for the Galaxy Z Flip 6, following up on the same for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 a few days ago.
  • This One UI 8 build brings small updates, such as Now Brief, log video recording support for more devices, and some more minor UI changes.
  • These smaller additions indicate Samsung is merely rebranding a smaller One UI 7.1 and parading it as One UI 8.

One UI 7 has barely reached Samsung’s older flagships, and we already have One UI 8 leaks. We recently saw leaked images showing off an internal build of the upcoming update on a Galaxy Z Fold 6. Now, another report highlights all the changes expected to come with One UI 8.

Sammobile has gotten their hands on a One UI 8 build for the Galaxy Z Flip 6. According to the report, the changes from One UI 7 to One UI 8 are so small that Samsung has seemingly just disguised the One UI 7.1 update as One UI 8. It is said that Samsung could have released these new features already with One UI 7 but chose not to.

One of my favorite Galaxy S25 features is available on older phones with One UI 7 https://www.androidauthority.com/one-ui-7-gemini-integration-3544785/ https://www.androidauthority.com/one-ui-7-gemini-integration-3544785/#respond Tue, 15 Apr 2025 14:38:40 +0000 https://www.androidauthority.com/one-ui-7-gemini-integration-3544785/
  • The stable One UI 7 update brings Gemini integration to older Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
  • Gemini now works with Samsung Calendar, Notes, and Reminders apps and supports common clock functions.
  • This was missing in the One UI 7 beta but is in the stable release.

When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 series back in January, one of the more exciting features announced alongside the phones was Gemini integration. Gemini was finally replacing Bixby as the default assistant summoned via the power key, and it was even getting integrations with Samsung’s first-party apps. As the One UI 7 betas continued for older devices, it looked like Samsung would lock some Gemini goodies into the Galaxy S25. Thankfully, summoning Gemini via the power key was added in later beta builds. Now that the stable One UI 7 updates have started (and stopped) to reach older phones, more Gemini features are available to them.

Despite having the stable version of One UI 7 on a Galaxy S24 Ultra for nearly a week, we didn’t notice that Gemini integration had been enabled until today, when Gemini answered a query with data from a Samsung application. The integration is limited to Samsung’s calendar, notes, and reminders apps. It can also create timers, alarms, and stopwatches in Samsung’s clock app, but that’s always been the case as it does this through Gemini’s utilities app. That could expand over time, but those three apps already cover most of what you’d want Gemini to do.

Samsung’s version of Android Auto has a clever notification trick https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-location-based-navigation-3544545/ https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-location-based-navigation-3544545/#respond Tue, 15 Apr 2025 13:00:44 +0000 https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-location-based-navigation-3544545/
  • Samsung developed a feature called location-based navigation that scans your messages for locations and lets you quickly start navigating to those destinations from your car screen.
  • This feature is available in Samsung Auto, which is Samsung’s version of Android Auto available in the Chinese version of One UI.
  • Android Auto currently doesn’t offer an equivalent feature, but we argue it should for safety reasons.

Android Auto is one of Android’s best features, since it lets you safely access many of your phone’s features while you’re driving. It’s not the only phone projection implementation, though. In China, where Android Auto isn’t available, Samsung offers its own version called Samsung Auto. Samsung Auto offers many of the same capabilities as Android Auto, but it has one neat feature that we’d like Google to copy: location-based navigation.

Most people input a destination before driving, but sometimes, drivers must change destinations mid-drive. This could happen for several reasons, but when it does, inputting the new destination can be difficult without pulling over. Although it’s possible to change destinations while driving, Android Auto only allows voice input while driving. The new destination may have an address that’s hard to say or require disambiguation in the case of businesses, forcing drivers to briefly take their eyes off the road to choose the right location on the car screen. Picking up your phone and manually typing the new address into a navigation app is incredibly dangerous to do while driving.

  • Over the weekend, tipsters spotted that the One UI 7 rollout had been paused after a later-than-expected start last week.
  • Now, Samsung has provided us with a statement saying that the “schedule is being updated to ensure the best possible experience.”
  • Unfortunately, Samsung’s statement does not clarify why the rollout is being paused, but some sort of bug would be the most obvious explanation.

Typically, Samsung flagships from the past few years would have had the latest version of Android — Android 15 — by the end of the year that the operating system was released. However, Android 15 launched in October 2024, and here we are today with millions of Samsung phones still stuck on Android 14. This has been a very frustrating time for Samsung fans.

Thankfully, the rollout of One UI 7 (based on Android 15) started last week for a handful of flagships in the United States, including the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. However, at some point over the weekend, Samsung appeared to stop the software rollout. A few trusted leakers spotted this, but Samsung remained quiet on the topic.

  • Samsung is still trying to roll out Android 15-based One UI 7 to its devices, but screenshots of Android 16-based One UI 8 have already leaked.
  • The UI in these leaked screenshots looks very similar to the previous OS release, with only minor refreshes seen in apps like Gallery and File Manager.
  • More importantly, however, the Galaxy S25-exclusive “Now Brief” feature could be coming to older models via the new update.

Samsung is having a very rocky One UI 7 rollout. The latest reports suggest that the rollout has been halted worldwide due to bugs. While users keep waiting for the stable Android 15-based update to land on their phone, the rumor mill for Android 16-based One UI 8 is working in full swing. The new smartphone earns its rugged credentials thanks to an IP68 rating, MIL-STD-810H design, and Gorilla Glass Victus Plus protection. Samsung adds that the phone’s display has been tested to withstand sanitizers so the screen doesn’t degrade over time with constant cleaning.

It’s been a long wait (arguably too long), but for owners of last year’s flagship Samsung Galaxy smartphones, the company’s latest big platform update, the Android 15-based One UI 7, is finally becoming available. After months and months of beta testing, Samsung got the ball rolling on One UI 7 updates one week ago, starting distribution of its new software for the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and the Galaxy S24 series. While international markets got first dibs, only a few days later we saw Samsung flip the switch on One UI 7 updates in the US.

That means that some of you have now had at least a full weekend to play with One UI 7 on your Galaxy phone, and start to familiarize yourself with many of Samsung’s changes. Beyond the boatload of Android 15 features you phone now has, Samsung’s done a ton of work implementing its own tweaks and upgrades, and we’ve spent the past several months checking out many of them both in One UI 7 betas and on the Galaxy S25 family.

If you’re looking for a great Android tablet, you’ve probably found that there are only a few options around, much less if you have specific needs like a rugged tablet or one that lets you hot-swap your battery. In fact, hot-swappable batteries are practically extinct for consumer smartphones and tablets, so when a new device comes along that promises to do just, we’re bound to take note. Meet the new Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro, an enterprise-ready rugged tablet.

The Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro has many of the same features as the just-announced XCover 7 Pro but also has some unique tricks. The dual hot-swappable battery allows workers to replace one of the tablet’s batteries without powering it down. There’s also a No Battery Mode, which enables it to function without a battery (albeit with performance constraints) when connected to a dedicated 21W (9V 2.3A) and above power source. The tablet can also be charged through a POGO dock (in addition to the USB-C port, which is USB 3.2-enabled), which comes in handy at workplaces for simultaneously charging multiple devices. The 10,100mAh battery is also user-replaceable entirely.

  • A flaw in Samsung’s One UI 7 lets media from the Secure Folder appear in auto-generated stories.
  • These stories trigger notifications visible outside of Secure Folder, which when clicked, expose hidden photos/videos.
  • Users should disable “Auto create stories” within Secure Folder’s Gallery app settings.

Samsung’s Secure Folder promises to be an encrypted space on your Galaxy smartphone where you can store files, images, and more away from prying eyes. Its whole premise is to keep files private and avoid surfacing them if anyone else uses your device by chance. However, Secure Folder isn’t as secure as Samsung promises it to be. We’ve already found one flaw in Secure Folder that lets anyone see which apps and photos you have stored within. Now, there’s another Secure Folder flaw.

Sammobile found that the Gallery app inside Secure Folder in One UI 7 can make its contents visible outside of Secure Folder through auto-generated stories. Firstly, the Gallery app inside Secure Folder can automatically create stories from your photos and videos, which sends out a notification to your system outside of the Secure Folder. What makes the flaw worse is that tapping on the notification will reveal all its content, even outside the Secure Folder.

Google has officially rolled out the stable release of Android 15. While Pixel devices received it immediately on October 15, 2024, Samsung users have been patiently waiting for the One UI 7 release date, as usual. High-end Galaxy phones are the first to get it, followed by the rest of the pack.

But this begs the question: Which Galaxy phones will even get the Android 15 update? While Samsung hasn’t shared an official list yet, we can make an educated guess based on the software support length of each phone.

  • Some Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra owners have reported that their ultrawide camera is extremely shaky and unusable.
  • Videos posted online show that this shaking results in a blurry viewfinder.
  • A similar problem plagued early iPhone 14 Pro models, but this was fixed in a software update.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra offers one notable camera hardware upgrade this year, namely a 50MP ultrawide camera. Unfortunately, it sounds like some users have reported a major problem with this shooter.

Some Galaxy S25 Ultra owners on the likes of Reddit, Twitter, and the Samsung Community forum (via Tech Issues Today) report that the ultrawide camera is vigorously shaking or vibrating. This shaking, which is accompanied by a vibrating sound, is very noticeable in the viewfinder and makes the ultrawide camera unusable. Check out a clip below, via Redditor Emergency_Ice_5503.

  • Installment Payments in Samsung Wallet allows eligible users in specific US states to split purchases using select Visa and Mastercard credit cards.
  • The early access program for the feature runs from April 28 to June 6, 2025.

Samsung phone users have access to Samsung Wallet, a digital wallet that lets them store and manage payment cards, IDs, keys, and more. Earlier in the year, Samsung announced a Buy Now, Pay Later service called Instant Installment for Samsung Wallet, which aimed to simplify in-store purchases. Samsung is now enrolling users for a trial of Instant Installment (now called “Installment Payments”), but only for residents of certain states.

Samsung is sending out emails to some of its customers in the US, inviting them to join the waitlist for an early access program for Samsung Wallet’s Installment Payments feature. Sammyguru received one such email for the waitlist. Eligible users will also see a banner for Installment Payments in the Samsung Wallet app.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is still considered one of the most premium Wear OS smartwatches around. The main reason we don’t usually recommend it is because of its high price tag. • Samsung has finally started rolling out stable One UI 7 update in the US, starting with the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra.
  • We also expect the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 to receive this Android 15-based update in the first wave.
  • The update will be rolled out in a phased manner, so not everyone will receive it today.

It took months of waiting and several rounds of betas, but it’s finally here. Samsung has finally, finally, finally begun rolling out stable One UI 7 to devices outside of the Galaxy S25 series in the US, three days after it began the rollout in South Korea and a good seven months after Google released the Android 15 platform update for the Pixels.

One UI 7 stable rollout has begun in the US with the Galaxy S24 series, with beta users reportedly receiving the stable update on their unlocked devices. Carrier variants should also be part of this rollout, but we haven’t seen reports yet.

Google has flip-flopped on Android tablets repeatedly, while Samsung has stayed mostly consistent. Enough so to dominate the ultra-premium tablet market to the extent that the Tab S series is the only Android competitor to the iPad Pro.

The Galaxy Tab S10 series has shaken things up in unexpected ways. There are only two models, the $999 Tab S10 Plus and the $1,199 Tab S10 Ultra, as the smaller 11-inch model has been dropped from the lineup. So, the Tab S10 series starts at $1,000, just like the iPad Pro Samsung wants to compete with. When you’re spending laptop money on an ultra-premium tablet, it should be able to back that up with a flawless experience. No matter how much I love the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus, flawless isn’t a word I can use to describe it.

  • The latest builds of One UI 7 have added Live Notifications for media apps that display an ongoing notification for playback control.
  • This extends to apps like Spotify, YouTube, and YouTube Music when playing content locally or casting and to apps like Netflix when casting.

The One UI 7 hype is real, as Samsung finally gets around to updating its devices to Android 15, months after the platform update was released and others got on board. As people get their hands on the update, they are spotting features that haven’t been clearly mentioned as part of the official changelog. As it turns out, One UI 7 is implementing a live notification for any app that puts media controls in the notification shade.

My colleague Zac Kew-Denniss spotted that newer One UI 7 builds (i.e., those with the April 2025 security patch) can display a live notification for any app that puts out an ongoing media playback control in the notification shade.

  • The much-anticipated Samsung Ballie robot is launching in the US this summer, with Gemini built in.
  • Gemini will let Ballie understand voice, visuals, and sensor data for more natural interactions.
  • Teased initially in 2020, Ballie has evolved into a smarter home companion with a built-in projector.

With the new season of Black Mirror hitting screens tomorrow, some concepts from the earlier seasons are slowly edging closer to reality. Samsung has confirmed that its robot Ballie — a rolling smart home companion that looks a bit like a high-tech bowling ball — will officially launch in the US this summer. Furthermore, it will be powered by Gemini, letting you discuss your requests with it or just engage in idle chat.

Ballie isn’t exactly new. Samsung first introduced the robot back in 2020, showing off its ability to follow users around the house, control smart home devices, and even check in on pets. After a bit of a quiet period, the robot reappeared at CES 2024 with an updated look and a projector built into its body, allowing it to beam videos, calls, or calendar reminders onto any nearby surface. The idea is that it’s more than a glorified Roomba — it’s meant to be a true companion that interacts with you and helps manage your home.

  • A leaker has suggested that Samsung won’t adopt an under-display selfie camera in the Galaxy S26 series.
  • They add that Samsung is struggling to improve the cost and ‘other aspects.’
  • This comes as the Galaxy maker is expected to adopt the tech in its Galaxy Z Fold 7 later this year.

Samsung has offered an under-display selfie camera on its Galaxy Z Fold devices since 2021’s Galaxy Z Fold 3. This camera is nigh-on invisible to users but offers inferior image quality compared to conventional selfie cameras. We previously heard rumors that this camera could come to a future Galaxy S model, but a new leak suggests otherwise.

Korean tipster Yeux1122 reports that Samsung was scheduled to bring an under-display selfie camera to the next Galaxy S model (presumably the S26 Ultra) but is struggling to improve the cost and “other aspects.” They add that the Galaxy maker is now expected to postpone the adoption of this tech.

  • While the airlift buys Apple time, the tariff hit is inevitable.
  • Android OEMs, particularly Samsung, appear calmer under fire, possibly thanks to a diversified supply chain.

  • Samsung’s been working on a thin new addition to its flagship family, the Galaxy S25 Edge.
  • Rumors has been looking at a possible April launch, but recently pushed expectations back to May.
  • Now we’re hearing an even later May date, along with release plans that could be geographically limited.

Predictability is boring, and who wants to see an unimaginative smartphone maker put out new editions of the same old phones, year after year? Luckily for those of us craving a little novelty, 2025 has been threatening to shake things up, with major players like Samsung expanding their flagship offerings with new models like that triple-screen foldable we’re anticipating. Ahead of that one, though, we’re looking forward to a new entry in the Galaxy S series, where the Galaxy S25 Edge could set new standards for thin design.

While Samsung has already previewed the S25 Edge, the manufacturer has yet to confirm launch plans, driving plenty of rumors and speculation about when we might hope to see this smartphone become available. Most recently, talk of a possible mid-April launch has shifted back to May. Now a new source reiterates a May timetable, while also warning of limited geographic availability.

  • The Pitaka PinButton case for the Galaxy S25 Ultra adds three programmable NFC buttons.
  • Users can assign routines or actions through One UI’s Modes and Routines without extra apps.
  • These buttons only work while the phone is unlocked due to Android limitations.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is Samsung’s overkill flagship for 2025, but compared to other Android Ultra flagships, the S25 Ultra does feel a little underwhelming. There’s definitely room for Samsung to improve a lot about the Ultra flagship, and a good starting point could be to give users a customizable button, just like Apple is offering with the Action button on the latest iPhones. Thankfully, you don’t have to wait for Samsung to add a button to your Galaxy S25 Ultra, as you can do it yourself with this case and some nifty One UI tricks.

The Pitaka PinButton case for the Galaxy S25 Ultra is similar to other great cases, but it has something that we don’t ordinarily see on other cases: three customizable buttons. These buttons sit on the left edge of the case and work through the magic of NFC. What’s more, you don’t need to download any additional apps, as this NFC functionality is used through One UI’s Modes and Routines feature to let you do a plethora of tasks at the press of a button.

  • The Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra received extended updates, but they’ve now been removed from Samsung’s update schedule.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 series, including the Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra, has officially reached the end of its software update journey. Originally launched in 2020 with a four-year update promise, the flagship trio received a bit of a reprieve last April when Samsung gave them a lifeline and shifted them to quarterly security updates instead of ending support entirely.
